New Delhi (India), March 3<\/strong>:\u00a0Abandoned\u00a0in\u00a0a\u00a0drain\u00a0hours\u00a0after\u00a0his\u00a0birth,\u00a0Tiger,\u00a0now\u00a0four-years-old, got a new home and a new set of parents after he was adopted by\u00a0an\u00a0Italian\u00a0couple\u00a0in\u00a0February\u00a0this\u00a0year.\u00a0When\u00a0rescued\u00a0on\u00a0December\u00a030,\u00a02018,\u00a0it\u00a0was\u00a0found\u00a0the\u00a0child\u00a0had\u00a0suffered\u00a0severe\u00a0injuries\u00a0to\u00a0his\u00a0head\u00a0and\u00a0illness\u00a0due\u00a0to\u00a0consumption\u00a0of\u00a0contaminated\u00a0water.\u00a0An\u00a0appeal\u00a0on\u00a0Ketto\u00a0for\u00a0money\u00a0for\u00a0his\u00a0life-saving treatment at Wadia Hospital (Mumbai) post the trauma yielded Rs 10.42\u00a0lakh\u00a0in\u00a024\u00a0hours.<\/p>\n

Named for the resolve with which the child survived being thrown into a drain, Tiger\u00a0was visited by his new parents at Vishwa Balak Kendra in Nerul and then flew back\u00a0with\u00a0them\u00a0to\u00a0Italy.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0newborn was rescued from the drain by a couple\u2014Shivaji and Jayashree\u00a0Ragade\u2014on December 30, 2018. Until his adoption, the Ragade couple looked after\u00a0all\u00a0his\u00a0requirements.<\/p>\n

After 22 days of treatment, Tiger finally opened his eyes. But he was not out of\u00a0danger yet. At Bai Jerbai Wadia Hospital, Parel, it was found the child had suffered\u00a0severe injuries to his head and multiple infections from consuming contaminated\u00a0water. He would need an urgent surgery which would cost almost 10,00,000 INR.\u00a0Shivaji and his wife did not have that amount of money on them. That\u2019s when a\u00a0doctor\u00a0recommended\u00a0the\u00a0crowdfunding\u00a0platform,\u00a0Ketto.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe were out of options and Ketto was a last-ditch effort on our part. We\u00a0reached out for support, and they helped us set up a fundraiser and did\u00a0wonders.With\u00a0we\u00a0the\u00a0full\u00a0support\u00a0within\u00a024\u00a0hours,\u00a0says\u00a0Shivaji.<\/p>\n

Within minutes of the fundraiser going live on Ketto, donations started to pour in\u00a0from every part of the country. 24 hours after the appeal was first made, 675\u00a0donors had contributed Rs 10.42 lakh towards Tiger\u2019s treatment. After undergoing\u00a0treatment\u00a0for\u00a0nearly\u00a04\u00a0months,\u00a0baby\u00a0Tiger\u00a0was\u00a0discharged\u00a0and\u00a0taken\u00a0to\u00a0the\u00a0Child Welfare\u00a0Committee,\u00a0Ambernath.\u00a0He\u00a0was\u00a0admitted\u00a0to\u00a0Vishwa\u00a0Balak\u00a0Kendra,\u00a0Nerul\u00a0for\u00a0further\u00a0care\u00a0and\u00a0adoption.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen\u00a0we\u00a0first\u00a0heard\u00a0Tiger\u2019s story, we knew we had to do everything in\u00a0our power to rally our donors. The Ragade couple themselves wished to adopt the baby but were unable to do so,\u00a0owing\u00a0to\u00a0legal\u00a0issues.<\/p>\n
