Investigators found <\/span>48.6% diethylene glycol<\/b>, a toxic industrial solvent, in samples, hundreds of times above the safety limit. The same chemical has caused tragedies abroad. But this time, India didn\u2019t shrug and move on.<\/span><\/p>\n

Within days, Delhi, Kerala, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh banned the syrup. The <\/span>Union Health Ministry<\/b> launched a national crackdown on substandard formulations. It\u2019s not just talk. States are now conducting joint audits, modernising testing labs, and creating a national database of manufacturers. The goal: <\/span>traceability from factory to pharmacy<\/b>, every batch logged, every bottle accountable.<\/span><\/p>\n

In Tamil Nadu, the source state, action was swift and decisive. The government suspended two senior drug inspectors and <\/span>cancelled Sreesan Pharma\u2019s license<\/b>. The factory, located near Kancheepuram, was sealed after inspections found over 300 quality violations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The company\u2019s proprietor, <\/span>G. Ranganathan<\/b>, was arrested on October 9. Investigations revealed that the manufacturer had used <\/span>non-pharmacopoeial grade solvents<\/b>, likely contaminated with diethylene glycol.<\/span><\/p>\n

This time, the message from regulators was clear: <\/span>Cutting corners is no longer cheap, it\u2019s criminal.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n
