MIT India’s IRS 2026 Brings 100+ Startups and 100+ Student Teams Together, Advancing Innovation, Entrepreneurship and Industry-Ready Solutions

MIT India’s Industry Institute Reconnect Summit (IRS) 2026

Pune (Maharashtra) [India], August 22: MIT India’s Industry Institute Reconnect Summit (IRS 2026) placed industry collaboration, entrepreneurship and industry-led problem-solving at the centre of its two-day programme, bringing together startups, investors, academic institutions and young innovators around opportunities for growth, innovation and real-world impact.

Held at Hotel TipTop International, Wakad, Pune, the Day 2 programme featured the opening of Capital Nexus and the National Hackathon, followed by panel discussions, networking sessions, sponsor and alumni interactions, and the prize distribution ceremony. The day brought together participants from across the startup, investment, academic and industry ecosystems, adding a strong entrepreneurial and innovation-focused dimension to the summit.

A key highlight of IRS 2026 was Capital Nexus, MIT India’s national entrepreneurship and investment platform, which brought together 100+ startups across sectors including SaaS, FinTech, HealthTech, EdTech, D2C, AgriTech, DeepTech, AI/ML, CleanTech, Manufacturing and EV & Mobility. Following the selection process, 25–30 startups qualified for the Grand Finale at the Industry Institute Engagement Summit (IES) 2026 in Delhi in October 2026, where they will gain opportunities for investor engagement, mentorship and national visibility.

Designed to create structured opportunities for investor matchmaking, pitch refinement, business validation and long-term mentorship, Capital Nexus also provided funding opportunities to promising ventures. The top three startups were identified as eligible for immediate funding opportunities ranging from ₹5 lakh to ₹50 lakh through Edugild. The Grand Finale will further connect selected startups with angel and venture capital networks.

The platform builds on the momentum of MIT India’s previous Industry Institute Future Summit, where 18+ curated investors engaged with 40+ shortlisted startups, generating ₹5 crore+ in investment interest across HealthTech, DeepTech, AI/ML and D2C. This continued engagement reflects the potential of sustained connections between emerging ventures, investors and the wider enterprise ecosystem.

The MIT India National Hackathon brought together 100+ student teams comprising students from Engineering, Science, Management and Design institutions across India, creating a national platform for young innovators to address challenges with direct industry relevance. Following the Pune qualifier, 30 teams have advanced to the Grand Finale in New Delhi, where they will present their solutions before industry professionals.

The Hackathon featured problem statements across Government, Social Impact, Defence, Healthcare, Technical and Industry sectors, enabling students to apply their academic learning to real-world challenges. The initiative carried a ₹25 lakh prize pool, with 48 industry experts involved in judging teams across the qualifier and finale. All teams participating in the Grand Finale will also receive AWS certification vouchers worth ₹10,000 each, along with cloud credits worth ₹20,000 each.

Together, Capital Nexus and the National Hackathon advanced the larger objective of IRS 2026: creating stronger connections between ideas, talent, industry, investment and opportunity. While Capital Nexus creates structured pathways for promising startups to access funding, mentorship and business networks, the National Hackathon develops a pipeline of multidisciplinary student talent equipped to address industry-relevant challenges.

Mr. Digvijay S. Karad, Group Director, MIT India, said, “The strength of an institution lies in the opportunities it creates for its students and innovators to engage with the world beyond the classroom. Through Capital Nexus and the National Hackathon, we are bringing together talent, industry, investment and innovation to create pathways that can take promising ideas towards meaningful impact. Our endeavour through IRS 2026 is to build sustained connections that empower young innovators and entrepreneurs to contribute to India’s evolving growth story.”

Day 2 of the summit culminated in the recognition of participating startups and student innovators following the Hackathon and Capital Nexus sessions, panel discussions and networking engagements. The summit reinforced MIT India’s ‘Reconnect’ vision of bringing academia, industry, entrepreneurs, investors, alumni and students together.

Through its network of institutions, including MIT Academy of Engineering (MIT AOE), Alandi, Pune; MIT Arts, Commerce & Science College (MIT ACSC), Alandi, Pune; MIT School of Distance Education (MIT SDE); MIT University of Meghalaya, Shillong, Meghalaya; VGWS (Vishwashanti Gurukul World School); MIT Institute of Design (MITID); Edugild; and Avantika University, Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, MIT India continues to foster collaboration, innovation and a future-ready ecosystem.
