Posted on February 15, 2022 By

Surat (Gujarat), February 15: Greenman Viral Desai organized a program to pay homage to the martyrs on the anniversary of the Pulwama attack at the Green Udhna railway station. At the same time, plaques bearing the names of the martyrs were unveiled in front of forty tall trees planted in honour of the martyrs in Pulwama. Distinguished personalities working in the field of the environment were also honoured as ‘Environmental Soldiers’.

The Heart of Work Foundation of Surat has developed Green Udhna Railway Station as the first model station in the country, Asia and the world on the theme of Climate Action and Ecosystem. All the work of this model station built on the theme of the environment is dedicated to the Pulwama martyrs by Greenman Viral Desai; hence a tribute program is held at Udhna station every year.

In this regard, Greenman Viral Desai said, “In connection with the Azadi Ka Amrut Mahotsav, we have launched the ‘Satyagraha Against Pollution’ movement. Under this movement, from this year, we have started ‘Environmental Soldier Honour’ this year. In the same way that the soldiers of the country protect us at the border, we also have to protect the health of the country’s people by becoming environmental soldiers. That’s why this year, we’ve come up with the idea of honouring environmental fighters.”

Many renowned personalities like DFO Puneet Nair, renowned botanist Dr. Minu Parbiya, Ms. Bindu Bhatt Head, Department of Geography, MS University, Vadodara, as well as social activist Bharatbhai Shah were present in this program. It is to be mentioned that the first Pulwama monument of the country has come up at Green Udhna station, where forty big trees were planted in honour of forty soldiers. So the first urban forest of Indian Railways has also been prepared here in honour of the martyrs. Named ‘Shaheed Smritivan’, the forest was created using the Miyawaki method.
