The exhibition is featuring a stellar collection of India’s most distinguished modernists, such as Maqbool Fida Husain, Francis Newton Souza, and Sayed Haider Raza, alongside iconic works by Ram Kumar, Krishen Khanna, Sakti Burman, Ramkinkar Baij, and Himmat Shah. The Gallery is also showcasing outstanding luminaries from that period including Ghulam Rasool Santosh, Bimal Das Gupta, Sadanand Bakre, Haku Shah, Abdul Aziz Raiba, B. Prabha, B. Vithal, Laxma Goud, Sankho Chaudhuri, and Abdul Rahim Appa bhai Almelkar.

By showcasing their art, the gallery is not only honoring their enduring legacy but also facilitating an insightful exploration of the evolution of Modern Indian Art. The curated collection, spanning decades of innovation, explores diverse themes and styles, creating a visual dialogue between the celebrated works of India’s modernist masters.

Ashish Thapar, the Founder of Thapar Gallery, while reiterating the contribution of the Indian masters in global art movement, expresses his vision of‘’….seek(ing) to reinvigorate interest in their works by presenting them in a manner that highlights their enduring relevance, both in the historical context and in today’s rapidly evolving artistic landscape. Our inaugural exhibition spotlights their lasting relevance while fostering dialogue through artist-led programs and conservation initiatives.”

Mr. Thapar further emphasizes his objective to make art accessible to all, and asserts that “We want to break down the barriers between traditional art spaces and the younger generation of art lovers. Through curated online content, virtual tours, and educational programs, we aim to make the works of modern masters more accessible, especially to those who may not traditionally visit galleries or museums.”With its modern and inclusive approach, Thapar Gallery aims to inspire diverse audiences—from seasoned collectors to emerging art enthusiasts—ensuring that India’s artistic legacy continues to inspire generations to come.

The gallery envisions to feature special retrospectives, focused thematic exhibitions, and artist-specific programs, including talks and panel discussions that explore the cultural and historical influences shaping India’s modernist vision. Potential collaborations with collectors, museums, and art institutions will further support efforts to preserve and showcase rare pieces of modern Indian art for future generations.

Strategically located between South Delhi and Gurgaon on NH -8, Kapashera Estate, New Delhi, the gallery provides easy access to two cultural hubs known for their appreciation of art, making it a convenient destination to explore the rich legacy of Indian modernism.
