Bangalore Student Secures Admit at University of Chicago

Posted on April 7, 2025 By

Bangalore (Karnataka) [India], April 7: For Aashman, securing admission to the University of Chicago — his dream school — under Early Decision (ED) is a major personal milestone. Ranked in the top 20 universities globally with an acceptance rate of less than 5%, UChicago is known for its intellectual intensity and bold ideas. But for Aashman, it’s not just about the prestige — it’s about finding a place where his curiosity can run free, where questions matter as much as answers, and where his passion for science and environment can thrive and bloom.

A student at the Canadian International School Bangalore, an IB school known for its academic focus, Aashman has always pushed the boundaries of learning. His love for science and economics isn’t confined to textbooks; it’s a living, breathing part of his everyday life, from late-night problem-solving sessions to thought experiments inspired by Feynman and Einstein.

One of Aashman’s most impressive academic feats was his role as a Student Researcher at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc), Bangalore. His research, published in a leading journal IRJMETS, focused on creating a sustainability function for the Indian aviation sector. Using Python, he game-theoretically modeled various variables and identified optimal government policies, merging scientific concepts with real-world applications.

As a Web Development Intern at NavGurukul—a nonprofit providing tech education to underprivileged girls— Aashman helped develop the UI/UX for Samyarth.org, a platform connecting 900+ girls with employment opportunities in technology. He also contributed to Sama, a sub-agency encouraging companies to recycle idle tech hardware, combining technical expertise with social responsibility.

Aashman’s leadership shone through at CISTheta, his high school’s math society and magazine club. Under his leadership, the club published two annual volumes totaling over 160 pages, featuring 21 research papers. He raised funds to print and distribute 120+ hard copies and initiated an international collaboration with Mu Alpha Theta for the third volume.

His passion for sustainability extended to founding the Canadian International School Gardening Club. As President, he organized weekly workshops on sustainability and raised funds for a prototype greenhouse, designed to offset the school’s carbon footprint each year. His hands-on approach inspired fellow students to take environmental action.

Despite his busy schedule, Aashman finds solace in music. A pianist since 2012 and a member of DJ Nitro Music, he has performed eight times at high school events, old age homes, and orphanages. His repertoire includes classics like Turkish March and Moonlight Sonata, along with three original compositions. His talent earned him international recognition from the Association for Music in International Schools (AMIS).

Reflecting on his journey, Aashman acknowledges the crucial role EZ Scholar played in shaping his profile and strengthening his  application. “Their insights into crafting a compelling application and highlighting my achievements made all the difference,” he shares.

When asked about his future, Aashman confidently states that he wants to start his own venture exploring sustainable computer technology. It’s a vision rooted in his passion for science and sustainability, aiming to create innovative solutions that balance technological advancement with environmental consciousness.

As Aashman prepares to embark on his next academic chapter at the University of Chicago, he carries with him not only his love for Physics but also a strong sense of purpose. His blend of scientific brilliance, leadership in research and sustainability, and creative expression through music paints a picture of a well-rounded individual ready to make a meaningful impact.

With his intellectual curiosity and determination, Aashman is set to explore new horizons and push boundaries, not just in college but in every endeavor he pursues. His story is a testament to the power of passion, perseverance, and the relentless pursuit of knowledge.
