Pune (Maharashtra) [India], November 3: Gray Spark Audio Academy, a music production and sound engineering school in Baner, Pune, has opened admissions for its next 15-month professional program, which begins in June 2027. The academy reports that 95% of eligible students are placed in industry roles, backed by hands-on training in six professional recording studios and more than 15 years of industry experience.
Hands on training
Gray Spark has been working in the music and sound industry for more than 15 years, and its approach to teaching is straightforward. You spend your time inside real studios, using professional equipment and the same software the industry relies on, while experienced professionals guide you along the way. The academy has six fully equipped studios, and over the course you will complete around 160 training sessions and spend more than 1,200 hours working in them.
What You Will Study
The program takes you through the whole process of making music, from the first recording to the final master. You will learn how different microphones behave and how to record vocals, guitars, pianos and percussion properly. You will study music production, including arranging, beat-making and sound design, so you can take a track from a rough idea to a finished song. Alongside that, you will learn mixing and mastering, music theory, how speakers and signal processing work, and how to move comfortably around Pro Tools, Ableton Live and Logic Pro.
Placements
One of the nicest things about Gray Spark is that you do not have to wait until the course ends to start working. Students join songwriting camps, take on real client projects and complete paid assignments. There is also an assistantship and an externship that put you alongside working professionals.
Graduates often say this is what made the difference. Aryan Thorve, a brand ad music producer, picked up paid projects during the course, built a portfolio along the way and now regularly creates ad film music for Apple, Samsung and Kia. Tushar Kangarkar, a film sound engineer, says the mentors made tricky concepts easy to understand and that working with real clients made learning practical. Adhithiya Tavorath, a music expert at Handshake in New York, credits the supportive faculty, the industry exposure and the portfolio opportunities for a great learning experience.
What Happens After the Course
Gray Spark reports that 95% of its eligible students are placed. To be eligible, you need to complete your assignments, finish your assistantship and attend your lectures. More than 200 graduates have been placed so far, and the academy offers placement assistance to help you take that first step into the industry.
The list of places where students have found work is long and varied. It includes Radio Mirchi 98.3 FM, Turtle on a Hammock, Alias Analogue, Kala Ghoda Records, Furtados, Trill Music Academy, Grace Live Studio, Ubisoft, Cameo, Red Square, Beatpulse, Stryve, Kuku FM, Riakian, Headout, Snowberry, Megasound, Ansata, AV Core, 24 Track Legends, Ekam Studios, LS Marathi, Novaklick, Pocket FM, Ultra Media and Bharat Music. Students have also led music production on commercial projects for brands such as Apple, Samsung, Kia and SBI, as well as ICC T20.
Plenty of Paths to Choose From
Sound is a much bigger field than most people expect. As you study, you will get to know careers such as music producer, recording engineer, mix engineer, mastering engineer, live sound engineer, film sound mixer, sound designer, game sound designer, location sound engineer, music arranger, acoustician and audio forensics specialist. That means you can aim for work in music, film, advertising, gaming or live events, depending on what excites you most.
State of the art studios
The six studios include live rooms, control rooms and a student production room, so there is always space to record, produce and mix. Outside artists, filmmakers and songwriters also book the studios for recording, mixing and mastering, which means you learn in a place that runs to professional standards and deadlines. Those clients seem happy with the experience too, as the academy holds a 4.8 out of 5 rating from 504 Google reviews.
Who Should Apply
You do not need to be a professional to apply. The program is meant for anyone who wants to turn a love of sound into a career, whether you are a musician, an aspiring producer, a film lover or a self-taught creator working from a laptop at home.
Come and See It for Yourself
The best way to know whether Gray Spark is right for you is to visit. You can book a free studio tour and see the rooms and equipment first-hand, or arrange a free consultation call where the team will talk with you about your current skill level, your goals and the next steps. The full curriculum is available to download from the academy’s website. Batch sizes are kept limited so every student gets time with mentors and in the studio, so it is a good idea to enquire early for the 2027 intake.
Recognised at India’s Top Audio Awards
The Indian Recording Arts Academy Awards, known as the IRAA, have honoured excellence in recording, mixing and music production across India’s film, television and independent music industries since 2006. What makes them unusual is that they are judged on process rather than popularity. Entrants submit their session files, and a jury of working engineers studies the decisions behind the record, including microphone choice, signal chain, balance and treatment. Gray Spark describes the IRAA as the closest thing Indian audio has to a peer review of craft, which is why the academy teaches toward it.
A Decade of IRAA Wins
Gray Spark first appeared on the winners’ list in 2017, when Harshad Sathe won in the Independent Song Recording and Mixing category and Hozaifa Sayed received the Dronacharya Award. In 2018, faculty member Malay Vadalkar won the same independent song recording and mixing award, and in 2020 it went to fellow faculty member Nitin Muralikrishna.
Ronak Runwal, another member of the faculty, was recognised in 2024 in the Independent Song Recording, Mixing and Mastering category. Then 2026 turned out to be a standout year. Nitin Muralikrishna, Ronak Runwal and Ajay Majethia, a mix of faculty and alumni, were recognised together in the Independent Music: Recording, Mixing and Mastering – Acoustic category, and alumnus Anuj Thakur was recognised for Independent Song Recording and Mixing.
